Peter is originally a Hakka Ka Yin or Jiaying Kè​jiā​rén​ (嘉应客家人) from Penang, Malaysia. His grandfather was the 23rd generation Hakka or JiaYing 嘉应 descendant who came from Nibei zhen (坭陂镇), a town located at the central south of Xingning. Xingning (興寧) is a county-level city, under the jurisdiction of Meizhou, in the eastern part of Guangdong province of the People’s Republic of China.

He is currently writing a book, tracing his family roots, and lately he has been able to make some startling discovery, thanks to the awesome power of the Internet. The main focus of Peter’s book is on the life and times of his father, the late Michael Wong Pow Nee, who had an illustrious career as a politician.

Peter realized the impact of the Internet especially when the national local newspaper did the first online web profile on his father’s contributions to the state and country.
